CLT19: Latin America must debate public policies that shall define its place within the map of the new digital economy

ICT’s key players shall gather during the Seventh Latin American Telecommunications Congress from July 1st to the 5th in Cordoba, Argentina, hosted by the Modernization Government Secretariat.

 Buenos Aires, April 16th 2019. The seventh edition of the Latin American Telecommunications Congress (CLT19), a regional forum where public policies of the digital ecosystem are discussed, comes within the context of a vertiginous acceleration of technological advancements such as 5G, artificial intelligence and Big Data.  With the slogan “Accelerating the digital transformation of Latin America”, the gathering shall address regulatory approaches and action frameworks that shall allow the region to incorporate technology to the productive processes and to get involved within the fourth industrial revolution.

As in previous years, the main event shall be the Plenary Session, a venue for discussion panels with first class guest speakers, including ministers, regulatory authorities and executives from service providers, devices manufacturers and Internet companies. The agenda shall include subjects such as the impact of the arrival of 5G, work in the future considering digitalization and the need to have pro-investment agendas in the region. Additionally, regulatory innovation as a tool to close the digital gap and the urgency of promoting gender equality when using ICTs shall be assessed.

The importance of the spectrum for digitalization processes of the countries’ economy shall be another core subject of the event. The World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-19) shall take place in 2019, where, among other subjects, assigning new frequency bands to 5G shall be discussed. In preparation for this important landmark in the digital ecosystem, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) shall carry out the forum “Managing the spectrum towards CMR-19”.

CLT19 is jointly led by the ITU, CAF – Development Bank of Latin America, the Inter American Association of Telecommunication Companies (ASIET) and GSMA, hosted by the Modernization Government Secretariat of Argentina. It has the support of the Government of Cordoba and organizations such as COMTELCA, Regulatel, CEPAL-eLAC, ICANN, Internet Society and LACNIC.

The event shall be held from July 1st to the 5th at the Brigadier General Juan Bautista Bustos Convention Centre, City of Cordoba, Argentina.
